What Universities Can Do To Reduce Sexual Assault

1. Acknowledge the problem.
2. Commit to creating a culture of respect on your campus.
3. Educate leadership on the nature of sexual assault.
4. Create collaborative efforts between departments.
5. Recognize men’s role in sexual assault.
6. Train leadership and staff on how to develop sexual assault prevention programming that is congruent with the culture of men.
7. Provide resources and staffing to offer significant educational experiences for all students through classes/workshops/presentations that would address the nature of sexual assault, enhance personal awareness of male power and privilege, sexual communication skills including an understanding of consent, and bystander intervention skills.
8. Ensure that male campus leaders including college presidents, deans, professors, staff, coaches, student athletes, student government leaders are visibly involved in campus sexual assault prevention activities.
9. Ensure that college athletic departments visibly participate in campus wide prevention activities.
10. Provide ongoing follow up service to reinforce the material covered in suggestion 7.
